A comical weekend w/Space Island & Lorin

One of the things I really missed since I came down here from Santa Cruz was a comic book shop. Back when I was all strung out from trying to do a double major in chem and bio and do thesis work, my one little vice was going to this comic shop near our King St. house and picking up all sorts of good reads. So now I'm down here in San Diego, home of *the Con*, and I haven't found a shop near me. Enter me riding my bike last Saturday to Clairmont mesa to this shop called Comikaze (lame name, I know). You know when you walk into a book store and you know its a bookstore by the smell of it? Yeah, it was kinda like that, plus a tinge of mylar, hehe. Anywho, I picked up a couple new titles from Warren Ellis, a Desolation Jones and Fell, and had lunch at this neat Vietnamese vegetarian place next door while I read them, and damn, that felt good.

Then heading up to LA for a burningman decompression afterparty at Space Island (the burner art warehouse that hosted the Absurd recordings parties that Cerrithwen and I have been going to for the past year) was having its last party there before the move to another space. Get there around midnight, and leave @10am. It was that good; shit was still going past 1pm Sunday morning from what I heard. Really great breaks and house all night and all day long, replete w/Space Wench.

Didn't sleep much Sunday, studied lots of Japanese, then went out to hear Lorin at the kava lounge. *Damn*. Thats all I can say. He rocked it and made a sweaty mess o' me. Its funny, too. Sometimes he's really good and sometimes (lately) he's not, but last Sunday he was dialed in like woah.

And now a week of crazy Japanese exams and oh, another writing composition; this time the topic is "Why having no car in Southern California sucks, and how I cope with my bike"

Ah, I wish it were Saturday and I was at the SD Decom.

well, it's not a good one by any means, but the only one i've seen while living here is in the back of that toy store on the corner of 3rd and market.
